Project no.1

MODERN COUNTRY - project published in House Beautiful magazine December 2014/January 2015

The brief:

  • Decide on a look to suit the barn-style new-build

  • Design a cohesive open-plan kitchen/dinning/living space

  • Choose integrated appliances for a sleek scheme

  • Ensure the space has plenty of storage

The result:

  • A tall bank of units concealing the fridge and freezer, creates a streamlined finish

  • Flat fronted handle-free cabinets look sophisticated in an open-plan living space

  • The island houses a dishwasher and bin unit either side of the sink for easy cleaning up

  • Bar stools and an overhanging worktop provide extra seating and space for socialising

  • Oak flooring complements the country style of this new-build barn house and softens the minimalist scheme

  • A boiling water tap frees up worktop space as there's no need for a kettle

  • Single ovens are situated at a convenient mid-height

  • Reclaimed beams built inot a low brick wall separate the dining and living spaces while allowing light to filter through

  • Oak-framed French doors enhance the barn-style deisng of the house

  • Three metal pendant lights hanging above the table tie in with the stainless-steel appliances in the kitchen space
